Rebecca Kaler (b. 1942) is an American artist who has shown extensively nationally and internationally in such places as the Butler Museum of American Art, The Cleveland Museum of Art, The Cleveland Institute of Art Reinberger Gallery, the Kiosko Gallery in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, and the Mansfield Art Center.

She became an archived artist at the Artists Archives of the Western Reserve, Cleveland, OH in 2019. She has authored and illustrated a children’s book, “Blueberry Bear,” published by Inquiring Voices Press, and has an extensive background in design, painting, textiles, and ceramics.

She has lived and worked in Ohio, Colorado, Canada, and Bolivia, where she once served as a Peace Corps volunteer.  Her many travels through South America, Southern Africa, Siberia, Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean, Canada, and the USA have contributed to her diverse style and subject matter ranging from an interest in landscape to abstraction.  Kaler was the Curator of the Pearl Conard Art Gallery at The Ohio State University at Mansfield, OH, for nearly twenty years, and she currently resides in Cleveland Heights where she continues as a working artist.

Biographical Information

Born, May 30, 1942 to Peter Nicolaus and Frances Rose (Siwek) Kaler, Mansfield, OH;  raised in several residences during and after WWII by a single mother, as well as with immigrant, working-class grandparents from  Greece and Poland.



Summary of artistic achievements

Archived artist at the Artists Archives of the Western Reserve in 2019.

Recipient of numerous art awards and participant in numerous art exhibits including ceramics, paintings and drawings;  a commercial artist for more than 20 years, which included designing wall covering and murals for various manufacturers; cartooning and gag writing for a sportswear company;  and creating environments for Ripley’s “Believe It Or Not”  museums; Curator – Pearl Conard Gallery (presenting works by emerging and established artists from the United States), curates, installs, and promotes seven gallery art exhibits during the academic year. Former Coordinator of Noncredit Continuing Education Programs – initiated and developed workshops and seminars, designs mailers, markets programs. Lecturer – English.


Summary of writing achievements

Authored and illustrated a children’s book, “Blueberry Bear,” published by Inquiring Voices Press, Bloomington, IN. Former associate editor of Archery World Magazine, Archery World Retailer, & Camping Industry; writer for Snowmobile magazine; editor of a bicycle magazine; and former staff writer for two newspapers.

International and cross-cultural experience

Peace Corps volunteer in community development, remote parts of Bolivia; worked with Russian English teachers in Tomsk, Siberia, to develop a model for adult learning programs soon after peristroyka. Traveling the world: My wonderlust resulted in rafting down the Ichilo River, Yapacani; a month long tramp steamer trip from Buenos Aires to Montevideo, Uruguay, Rio de Janeiro, Canary Islands, Lisbon, and Barcelona; three months traversing Europe; one month traversing Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe; and traveling to several other parts of the world.
